BREAKING NEWS: Pension Bill S3780 Restoring Prosecutors Part Introduced in Senate!

Members:

I am thrilled to announce that moments ago a bill to restore the Prosecutors Part to PERS pension was just introduced in the New Jersey Senate!

Sponsored by Senator Joseph A. Lagana (Paramus), this APANJ-backed legislation was introduced as S3780 and would re-open the Prosecutors Part for ALL prosecutors statewide.

Closed to new members on May 21, 2010, the negative impact from losing the Prosecutors Part has never been more pronounced. Higher turnover, less qualified applicants, less diverse applicants, less experienced supervisors, and growing inequity continue to hamper virtually every office throughout the state. On top of all this, never in our history has the public demanded more from prosecutors, who are routinely on-call around-the-clock and serve on the front lines implementing criminal justice reform. Now, more than ever, the demand to attract and retain talented and experienced assistant prosecutors has never been greater.

This legislation, once enacted, will ensure that New Jersey continues to attract and retain career prosecutors in order to meet the demands of today's rapidly changing justice system.

We are encouraged that the APANJ's calls for change have been heard. Our advocacy efforts have reached the legislature. Now, with your help, let's pass S3780!

Read the bill here. Track it as it moves through the legislature by visiting our website. Support passage of S3780 by sending an email or letter to your local legislators in the Senate and Assembly from your personal account/letterhead. Find their contact information here.

Together, we can restore the Prosecutors Part!

On behalf of the Officers and Trustees of the APANJ, thank you for your support!
