APANJ Opposes the OPD’s Efforts to Release Inmates

Since the first wave of releases pursuant to a March 22, 2020, consent decree signed by the Attorney General, the County Prosecutor’s Association (CPANJ), the OPD, and the ACLU, Assistant Prosecutors statewide have been working tirelessly to oppose numerous defense motions to re-open detention hearings due to COVID-19. Just yesterday, we learned that the ACLU and the OPD also are targeting certain state prisoners and seeking their release due to COVID-19. The APANJ opposes their efforts and has alerted the CPANJ of our staunch opposition.

Presently, your work in opposing the release of dangerous inmates is, and should be, heralded. Those of us on the front lines know you are working under incredible pressure in an entirely different work environment, which presents its own unique challenges.

The APANJ supports your dedication and recognizes that you are the last line of defense in keeping dangerous inmates off the streets especially during this crisis. Let us know how we can assist you. Email us at APAofNJ@gmail.com.

Keep fighting the good fight!

Coming Soon!
APANJ is Creating Delegates-At-Large for its Membership

We are revising our bylaws to create an APANJ advisory board comprised of delegates appointed from every county to assist the executive board and trustees. Among the advisory board’s functions will be building direct communications with every county prosecutor’s office. This group of delegates-at-large will replace and redefine the “liaison-format” that existed for many years. Our goal is to improve member engagement and participation in the APANJ.

If you are interested in serving as your office’s delegate to the APANJ, please email us at APAofNJ@gmail.com.
